Points & crossings are those sections of the railway track that enable the train to change the track in order to change due direction of its motion. These connections are not only useful for train to move from one route to another but also for marshaling and shunting movement in station and marshaling yards. The points consist of a Tongue rail and a stock rail, the tongue rail, as suggests its name, is in the shape of tongue, wide from back and sharp at front.
