The life rafts can automatically inflate and straighten, for people in distress to ride on. If the ship sinks too quickly and cannot be thrown into the water in time, when the ship sinks to a certain depth underwater, the static water pressure release device on the life raft frame will automatically unhook and release the life rafts.
